Once a Storydoc is shared, you can still update what viewers see, replace the preview image, or take the link offline. This guide explains how to update the main live link, edit a specific custom version, and safely unpublish or delete links.
Before you start: live link vs. custom versions
Live link (main story): Updating the live link pushes changes to everyone with the main URL. this is the default link of every story.
Custom version: Each version has its own URL. Editing a version updates only that version.
Change the preview image of a shared story
Open your story and click Share.
In the Link tab, click Change preview on the card.
Upload or select a new image. The share preview updates immediately.
Edit the main live link (update what viewers see)
From Stories, open the story and make your edits in the editor.
Click Share.
Click Update & Share when prompted to update the main link.
Your latest changes are now live on the existing URL.
Tip: To open the story without recording analytics, use Test this link in the Share panel.
Edit a specific custom version (without changing the main link)
Open the story and click Share.
In the left menu, select Custom version → All versions.
Click the ••• menu for the version and choose Open in editor.
Make your changes, then click Update & Share to push updates to that version’s URL only.
Note: Editing a version affects only that version. The main story and other versions do not change.
Sync a version with the main story
If you updated the main story and want a version to match it exactly:
Go to Share → Custom version → All versions.
Open the version’s ••• menu and click Sync with master.
Confirm to overwrite the version’s content with the latest main story while keeping the version’s name, URL, and dynamic variables if there are any.
Unpublish or delete a sent link
Take the main story offline
On the Stories page, click the ••• menu for the story.
Click Archive. The live link will no longer be accessible.
Take a specific version offline
Click Share → Custom version → All versions.
Open the version’s ••• menu and select Archive. That version’s link will be taken off the air.
Restore something you archived
Unpublishing in Storydoc is done by archiving. You cannot republish the same link after archiving, but you can Duplicate an archived story or version to generate a fresh link.
Stories: Use Filter to show Archived Stories, then Duplicate to create a new active copy with a new link.
Custom versions: Archived versions cannot be restored. Duplicate to recreate a new version and link.
FAQs and tips
Do edits go live automatically? Not until you click Share → Update & Share.
What does Sync with master do? It replaces the selected version’s content with the latest main story while keeping its existing URL and name.
Where are my archived items? Use Filter on the Stories page to view archived stories. For versions, open Share → Custom version → All versions and use filters there.
