Adding a Counter as an Animated Element

Learn how to use Counter in your presentations.

Written by Jack

Animated counters are a powerful way to make numbers in your presentations more engaging and visually appealing. Instead of showing static figures, counters animate from zero to your target number, drawing attention to important metrics and data points.

Adding a Counter as an Animated Element

The primary method for adding counters in Storydoc is through the animated elements section. This approach gives you a dedicated counter element with full animation capabilities.

Configuring Your Counter Settings

When you select a counter element, you'll see specific settings in the top toolbar that allow you to customize how your counter behaves and appears.

Setting the Counter Value

To change the number your counter displays, click on the Counter button in the top toolbar and enter your desired value. You'll see the animation preview as you make changes.

Adding Prefix and Suffix Text

You can enhance your counter with prefix or suffix text to provide context. For example, add a "$" prefix for currency or "%" suffix for percentages.

Styling Your Counter

Like other text elements in Storydoc, you can customize the appearance of your counter including font size, color, and other visual properties using the standard formatting options in the toolbar.

Adding Counters Within Text Elements

You can also embed animated counters directly within existing text elements, which is useful when you want to combine static text with animated numbers in the same paragraph or heading.

Best Practices for Using Counters

To maximize the impact of your animated counters:

  • Use counters for key metrics and important data points that deserve emphasis

  • Choose appropriate prefixes and suffixes to provide clear context ($ for money, % for percentages, etc.)

  • Consider the animation speed - slower animations can be more dramatic, while faster ones keep presentations moving

  • Disable commas for numbers where they might be confusing or unnecessary

  • Ensure counter colors contrast well with your slide background for readability
