How to Access Design Settings

You can access your design settings in two ways:

  • From inside a story: Click the Design icon on the right sidebar while editing

  • From your workspace: Navigate to Libraries > Design to see all your themes.

When you open design settings, you'll see a preview panel with either your current story or sample slides to preview changes in real-time.

Using AI Brand Import

The fastest way to set up your design system is using Storydoc's AI brand import feature. Simply enter your website URL and Storydoc will automatically extract your logo, color scheme, and fonts.

Once you enter your website (e.g., "storydoc.com"), the AI will pull your brand elements automatically. You can then customize these settings further to match your exact brand requirements.

Customizing Colors

Navigate to the Theme tab to customize your color palette. The color system includes:

  • Base colors: Your primary accent colors (typically 3-4 colors)

  • Background colors: Light and dark background options

  • Font colors: Separate colors for titles, subtitles, and body text

  • Custom colors: Additional colors for charts, accents, or special elements

You can use the color picker to select colors directly from your story preview or enter specific hex codes for precise brand matching.

Setting Up Fonts

Storydoc offers two font categories:

  • Headline fonts: Used for titles and headings

  • Body fonts: Used for paragraph text and content

Click Add more fonts to access Storydoc's connected Google Fonts library (all free). For custom fonts, contact the Storydoc team for upload assistance.

You can customize individual text styles including Display, Title, Heading, Subheading, and Normal text, adjusting font family, size, and formatting for each.

Configuring Highlight Text

Set up interactive text highlights that change color when users hover over them. This feature is perfect for creating engaging call-to-action text.

Choose between background highlighting or underline styles, set text and highlight colors, and enable animated effects for dynamic interactions.

Media Settings

Control how images and media appear in your stories with these options:

  • Media shape: Choose from Free, Rectangle, Blob, or other preset shapes

  • Corner radius: Set how rounded your media corners appear

  • Shadow: Add drop shadows with customizable style, opacity, and color

  • Overlay: Apply color overlays to all media

  • Grayscale filter: Convert all media to black and white

These settings apply as defaults to all new media, but can be overridden for individual images in the editor.

Button and Link Styling

Customize your call-to-action elements by setting up primary and secondary button styles:

  • Primary buttons: Your main CTA buttons with background color, text color, and hover states

  • Secondary buttons: Alternative button style for less prominent actions

  • Links: Text links with custom colors and hover effects

Set corner radius, border colors, and hover states. If you don't specify hover colors, Storydoc automatically creates slightly lighter or darker versions of your main colors.

Saving Your Design System

After customizing your design system:

  1. Click Save changes to apply settings to your current story

  2. Use Save as a new theme to create a reusable design system (you can create multiple themes)

  3. Set it as the default theme for your organization so all new stories use these settings automatically

Your story will immediately update to reflect the new design system settings. This ensures consistent branding across all your Storydoc presentations.
