How to Edit Live Charts

Learn how to add interactive charts to your presentations and customize their data, colors, and settings.

Charts are powerful visual elements that help communicate data effectively in your presentations. Storydoc offers a variety of chart types with full customization options, allowing you to create compelling data visualizations that engage your audience.

Adding a Chart to Your Presentation

To add a chart to your story, hover over the right side of the editor screen and find the Add a chart option. Click on it to open the chart selection panel.

Choose from several chart types including vertical bar, horizontal bar, vertical stacked, horizontal stacked, basic line, smooth line, vertical area, smooth vertical area, donut, and pie charts. Select the chart type that best represents your data.

Editing Chart Data

After adding your chart, you can customize the data by clicking on the chart and selecting Edit data. This opens the chart editor where you can modify values directly in the data table.

In the data editor, you can:

  • Click on any cell to edit data values directly

  • Modify column headers to change data series names

  • Add or remove data points as needed

Customizing Chart Colors

To change your chart colors, select the color options in the chart editor. You can choose from predefined theme colors or create custom colors to match your brand.

The color picker allows you to:

  • Select from your current theme colors

  • Use the Edit theme option to modify theme colors

  • Create custom colors using the color wheel

Advanced Chart Settings

Click the Settings button to access advanced customization options that give you full control over your chart's appearance and functionality.

Available settings include:

  • Legend: Show or hide the chart legend

  • Annotation: Add data point labels

  • Grid: Display or hide grid lines

  • Values: Show data values on the chart

  • Dark mode: Switch to dark theme

  • Min/Max values: Set custom axis ranges

  • Prefixes and suffixes: Add currency symbols or units

  • Line size: Adjust line thickness for line charts

Changing Chart Types

You can easily switch between different chart types using the dropdown menu in the chart editor. This allows you to experiment with different visualizations of your data without starting over.

Uploading Custom Data

For larger datasets, click the Replace data (csv) button to upload your own CSV file. This feature allows you to import complex data sets directly into your chart.

When uploading a CSV file, ensure your data is properly formatted with column headers in the first row and numerical data in subsequent rows.

Saving Your Changes

After making all your customizations, click Save to apply the changes to your chart. The chart will automatically update in your presentation with all the modifications you've made.

To make further edits later, simply click on the chart and select Edit data again to return to the chart editor.

Interactive Features for Viewers

Once published, your charts become interactive for viewers. When someone hovers over different sections of the chart, they'll see detailed information about that specific data point.
