Spacers and dividers are powerful design elements that help create professional, polished presentations in Storydoc. These elements allow you to control spacing and add visual breaks between content sections, making your stories more readable and visually appealing.
What are Spacers and Dividers?
Spacers create invisible vertical space between elements in your story. They help establish proper spacing and visual hierarchy without adding visible content.
Dividers are visible horizontal lines that separate content sections. They provide clear visual breaks and help organize your information into distinct sections.
Important to note: spacers are only visible in the editor to help you design your layout. They won't appear in your published story, but their spacing effects will be maintained.
Adding Spacers and Dividers
To add these elements to your story:
Navigate to the element menu on the right side of the editor
Look for the Add a spacer/divider section
Choose from the available options
You'll see several pre-configured options:
Small spacer - Minimal vertical spacing
Medium spacer - Standard vertical spacing
Large spacer - Maximum vertical spacing
Thin divider - Subtle horizontal line
Medium divider - Standard horizontal line
Thick divider - Bold horizontal line
Using Spacers
To add a spacer to your slide:
Select your preferred spacer size from the element menu
Drag and drop it to any location on your slide where you need spacing
Once added, you can customize the spacer size in the settings panel. You can set any value from 5 pixels to 350 pixels depending on your spacing needs.
Using Dividers
Dividers offer more customization options than spacers. After adding a divider to your slide, you can modify several properties:
Divider Width and Thickness
You can adjust two key measurements:
Width - Controls how far the divider extends horizontally (10% to 100% of the available space)
Thickness - Controls the weight/height of the divider line
Divider Alignment
Use the Align settings to position your divider precisely:
Horizontal alignment - Left, Center, or Right
Vertical alignment - Top, Middle, or Bottom
Divider Style Options
Choose from four different visual styles:
Squared - Sharp, clean edges (default)
Rounded - Soft, curved edges
Dashed - Broken line pattern
Dotted - Small dots pattern
Customizing Divider Colors
The Border color setting controls the main color of your divider. You can:
Select from your theme colors
Choose custom colors
Use gradient effects
Final Thickness Adjustments
The Thickness setting allows you to fine-tune the visual weight of your divider. This works in combination with the width setting to create the perfect visual balance for your content.
With these spacing and divider elements, you can easily elevate your Storydoc presentations to look more professional and well-organized. Experiment with different combinations to find the perfect visual hierarchy for your content.
