How to Comment and Collaborate in your decks

Learn how to add, reply to, and manage slide comments in Storydoc to collaborate with your team on decks.

Written by Jack

Storydoc's commenting feature makes it easy to collaborate on decks with your team — without switching to a separate tool. You can leave feedback on specific slides, mention teammates, and manage comment threads all within the editor.

How to Add a Comment to a Slide

There are two ways to add a comment to any slide in your Storydoc deck.

  1. From the slide toolbar: Select the slide you want to comment on, then look for the comment icon in the top-right area of the slide view.

  2. From the slide panel: In the left-hand slide panel, hover over the slide you want to comment on, click the three dots (…) that appear, and select Comment.

Once the comment box opens, you can:

  • Type your message in the text field

  • Use @ to mention a specific teammate

  • Attach a relevant file using the attachment icon

When you're ready, click the send button (the purple arrow) to post the comment.

How to Mention a Teammate in a Comment

To notify a specific person, type @ followed by their name or email address in the comment box. A dropdown will appear with matching users on your team.

Note that some users may not appear in the suggestions if they don't have the right permissions for that story.

Viewing Comments on a Slide

After a comment is posted, a profile picture will appear in the top-left corner of the slide — even when the comment panel is closed. This is a quick visual indicator that there's an active comment thread on that slide.

Open the full Comments panel from the right side of the editor to see all comments across the deck.

Replying to a Comment

Inside a comment thread, you can type a reply in the "Reply to thread…" field. Your teammates can do the same, keeping all feedback in one organized place.

Managing Comments: Resolve, React, Edit, and More

When the Comments panel is open (accessible by clicking the comments icon on the top right corner ), you'll see all comments for the current slide. You can filter between All comments and For you (comments where you've been mentioned).

For each comment thread, you have the following options:

  • Resolve thread — mark the discussion as done; it will be removed from the active view

  • React — add an emoji reaction to a comment

  • Unsubscribe from thread — stop receiving notifications for that thread

  • Edit comment — update the text of a comment you've written

  • Delete comment — remove your comment entirely

Using comments is a great way to streamline feedback and keep your deck-building team aligned — all without leaving the Storydoc editor.
