You can attach a hyperlink to any text, image, or button in your Storydoc — and make that link dynamic, so it changes per personalized version you share. This is perfect for sending each recipient to their own calendar booking page, a tailored landing page, or any other unique URL.
Step 1: Select the element and open the Link panel
Click on the text, word, image, or button you want to hyperlink. In the formatting toolbar that appears, click the link icon (it looks like a chain link). A Link panel will pop up with two tabs: Hyperlink and Anchor.
Make sure the Hyperlink tab is selected.
Step 2: Add a variable as your URL
Instead of typing a fixed URL, you can use a variable so the link changes per version. In the URL field, type your variable name using double curly braces, for example: {{link_test_variable}}.
The URL field already includes https:// as a prefix, so when you fill in the variable value later during version creation, you only need to enter the part of the URL that comes after https:// — not the full address.
Once your variable is entered, click Add link. The element is now linked with a dynamic variable that will resolve to a different URL for each version you create.
Step 3: Create a personalized version and fill in the variable
When you're ready to share, click the Share button in the top-right corner of the editor, then navigate to the Personalized versions tab. Click + Create version.
Give the version a title, then scroll down to the Fill out variables section. You'll see your link variable listed there (e.g., link_test_variable). Click the field next to it and enter the destination URL for this specific recipient — remember, just the part after https://.
Once you've filled in all variables, click + Create version. Storydoc will generate the personalized version with the link baked in for that recipient.
Step 4: See how it looks for the reader
After the version is created, you can copy the link and preview it. On the reader's side, the linked word, image, or button will appear highlighted and clickable. When they click it, they'll be taken directly to the URL you specified for their version.
Open the link in a popup (optional)
You also have the option to open the hyperlinked URL inside the deck rather than redirecting the reader to a new tab. This keeps the reader within your Storydoc experience.
To enable this, open the Link panel for your element and toggle on Open in a popup. When the reader clicks the element, the linked page will load in an overlay within the deck.
Tips and common use cases
Calendar links: Send each recipient their own booking link so they can schedule a call directly from your deck.
Personalized landing pages: Link to a custom page tailored for each prospect or account.
Any clickable element: You can hyperlink text, individual words, images, and buttons — not just text blocks.
HTTPS prefix: The URL field always starts with https://, so when filling in the variable at version creation, only enter what comes after that prefix.
Popup option: Use "Open in a popup" to keep readers inside your deck while they view the linked content.
