We’ve rebuilt Storydoc variables from the ground up to make personalization faster to create, easier to manage, and much more powerful, for you and your AI agents.
Add Smart Variables directly to your slides, generate personalized content with AI Variables, calculate values with formulas, personalize media and data, repeat content as many times as you need, and show or hide content for each version.
Personalize more than just text
Variables now work across text, images, logos, videos, embeds, tables, and charts.
Add them from the new Variables panel, drag them straight onto your slide, or simply type {{ while editing text.
This means one template can automatically swap in the right prospect name, company logo, pricing table, intro video, chart data, and more for every version.
Generate personalized content with AI Variables
With AI Variables, you can define a variable once and let AI generate the right version for every prospect.
Create your own prompt, tell AI what you want it to write, and use other variables inside the prompt to give it personalized context.
For example, you could create an Executive summary variable that uses the prospect’s company, industry, pain points, and deal details to generate a unique introduction for every version.
You can change the prompt whenever you need more control over the output, then reuse the same AI Variable throughout your Storydoc.
Make every version adapt to the deal
Two new capabilities make it easier to use one template for very different prospects.
Repeatable content lets you design a block once and repeat it with different variable values. For example, create one pricing row with variables for the product name, description, and price. Then add three products for one prospect or ten for another, and Storydoc automatically repeats the same design for each one. The same works for team members, case studies, services, and other repeating content.
Optional content lets you decide whether specific slides or sections should appear in a version at all. For example, include a healthcare case study only for healthcare prospects, or add an enterprise pricing section only when it’s relevant to the deal.
Calculate, format, and automate
Variables can now do more than just replace content.
Use formulas to calculate things like prices, discounts, quantities, and totals automatically from other values in the version.
You can also create dynamic dates. For example, set an offer expiry date to always be 14 days after the proposal date, instead of updating it manually for every prospect.
New variable types give you the right input for different kinds of content, including numbers, dates, dropdowns, colors, tables, charts, AI-generated text, and more.
Available where the work happens
The new personalization capabilities aren't limited to the Storydoc platform. They’re also available through our API, CRM integrations, and MCP, so you can use them however your team works.
Personalize a single story in the editor, generate hundreds of versions from your CRM or API, or let your AI agents create and personalize Storydocs for you using the same variables and logic.
Whether you’re working on one important deal or personalizing content at scale, the same system works across your workflows.
Everything in one place
A new Variables page brings your Storydoc, profile, and custom variables together, where you can manage values, fallbacks, AI Variables, and custom fields.
You can also create profile fields for things like a sender’s photo, booking link, or intro video, so they’re filled in automatically whenever that person creates a version.
We’ve made version creation simpler too, with the right input for every variable type and a consistent personalization experience across Storydoc and your connected workflows.
Coming to Storydoc on September 29.
