Why automate Storydoc with Pipedrive

Automating Storydoc creation from Pipedrive allows you to:

  • Generate personalized sales decks the moment a new lead is created.

  • Create tailored proposals automatically as deals move through stages.

  • Keep Storydoc links stored inside the Pipedrive record so reps always have the right version.

  • Ensure a consistent sales workflow without repetitive manual work.

Automation works through Zapier. For setup instructions, refer to the article How to Connect Storydoc with Zapier

Pipedrive triggers you can use:

1. New Lead

Triggered when a new lead is added to Pipedrive.
Use case: Create a personalized Storydoc intro deck for every new inbound or outbound lead.

2. New Organization

Triggered when a new company record is created.
Use case: Generate a tailored company overview deck or outbound sales asset.

3. Updated Deal

Triggered when an existing deal is updated.
Use case: Automatically create a new Storydoc version when deal details, values, or owners change.

4. Deal Matching Filter

Triggered when a deal enters a custom filter, often used for stage transitions.
Use case:

  • When a deal moves to “Proposal,” generate a proposal deck.

  • When a deal moves to “Negotiation,” generate a recap or updated plan.

5. Activity Matching Filter

Triggered when an activity meets a defined filter rule.
Use case:

  • When a rep completes a first call, generate a personalized follow-up Storydoc.

All triggers above are standard in Pipedrive’s Zapier integration and require no special setup inside Pipedrive beyond creating filters where needed.

Creating personalized Storydocs from Pipedrive

Once you choose a trigger, Storydoc can automatically create a new version of your selected template using Pipedrive fields such as:

  • Lead name

  • Organization name

  • Deal title

  • Deal stage

  • Deal value

  • Owner name

  • Region / segment (if stored in custom fields)

Storydoc Dynamic Variables inside the template will populate the content automatically.

Writing the Storydoc link back into Pipedrive

After generating a personalized Storydoc, you can store the link back in Pipedrive for easy access.

Pipedrive supports the following update actions in Zapier:

Supported Actions

  • Update Lead

  • Update Deal

  • Update Organization

This allows you to write the Storydoc URL into:

  • A custom field (recommended)

  • The notes field

  • The activity timeline (if tied to a follow-up task)

Common examples

  • Attach the Storydoc proposal link to a deal record the moment the proposal is generated.

  • Store an intro deck link on a new lead record so SDRs can use it in follow-ups.

  • Add account-specific Storydoc links to organization profiles for long-term account management.
